Our Commitment to Meeting UN Goals

Objectifs ONU engagements environnement

The United Nations Organization has defined 17 objectives in order to guarantee the sustainable development of our world by 2030. These objectives are directly linked to the international issues that we are currently experiencing such as peace, climate, equality or even justice.

Our mission enables us to contribute to 10 of the UN's goals. They represent our line of conduct and we take them into consideration in each of our decisions / actions.

UN Sustainable Development Goals

Objective n°3: Good health and well-being

Getting around by bike allows you to practice regular physical activity that contributes to health and well-being. This mode of transport reduces the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases or diabetes. Journeys in the open air also make it possible to limit all forms of stress, some studies even go so far as to affirm that cycling makes you happier! The qualities attributed to the muscle bike are also the same for an electric bike.

Replacing the car with the bicycle decongests cities and thus reduces the number of fine particles emitted. Air pollution is the cause of 48,000 premature deaths each year, so it is essential to turn to more sustainable modes of travel.

We respond here directly to a sub-objective of this challenge defined by the UN: "significantly reduce the number of deaths and illnesses due to pollution and contamination of the air, water and soil of here 2030”.

Goal 5: Gender Equality

The bicycle has not always been the means of transport that we know today.

First reserved for men of the wealthy classes because it was very expensive, it did not benefit women who were often under house arrest.

Women fought for their independence and their right to move, and in developing countries some still fight. The bicycle was thus a trigger for the emancipation of women.

Susan B. Anthony, an American suffragist, said, “The bicycle has done more for the emancipation of women than anything else in the world. »

At Möbius we design bicycles without gender labels, and we develop products adapted to all needs and uses.

In addition, we adopt a parity and inclusive recruitment policy.

Goal 8: Decent work and economic growth

As part of the design and production of our bikes, but also for complementary activities (for example, communication), we make it a point of honor to provide decent work and to remunerate our partners fairly.

In order to promote workplace safety and ensure the protection of all workers making bicycle frame and electronic parts in China, the co-founder of Möbius works on site and often visits them. In this way, she ensures that their working conditions meet our safety and ethical standards. We have selected a factory with a quality workforce and fairly remunerating its employees.

Finally, for complementary activities, we use subcontractors and highlight their creativity with fair remuneration.

Objective n°9: Industry, innovation and infrastructure

The cycle industry turns out to be very polluting; 1 bicycle is produced every 4 seconds in the world with materials of extractive origin, very energy-intensive processes and sometimes toxic products. And at the end of their life, more than 15 million bicycles are thrown away every year and end up in bicycle cemeteries, or closer to home at the bottom of the Seine, for example.

In order to promote a more sustainable industry, Möbius Bike is committed to eco-design and takes into account the entire product life cycle. This reflection goes from the ideation of the product, very minimalist, to the choice of materials (bio-sourced or recycled), to the assembly in France then the delivery and finally until the recycling of the bike at our expense.

Our goal is to allow city dwellers to travel with eco-responsible, design, comfortable and high-performance products, all at a fair price and without harming the planet, with a truly global and not just local approach.

Goal 10: Reduced inequalities

Up to 30% of income inequality is due to inequality within households, including between women and men. Women are also more likely than men to live on less than 50% of the median income .

Thus, at Möbius Bike, we make no distinction other than experience and skills in the allocation of a position or in the choice of remuneration. These decisions are made regardless of age, gender, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion, or economic or other status.

Goal 11: Sustainable Cities

Möbius was developed with the idea of leaving cleaner and more sustainable cities to future generations. Currently, cities account for almost 70% of the world's carbon emissions and more than 60% of the resources used. We must therefore rethink our journeys in order to make cities more pleasant to live in.

Limiting the use of personal cars reduces pollution, noise pollution, traffic jams, etc.

Namely: 90% of urban residents breathe polluted air.

Objective n°12: Responsible consumption and production

To achieve sustainable management and rational use of resources, we develop our products using an eco-design approach.

We have selected bio-sourced, recycled or recyclable materials in order to reduce our carbon footprint. And we significantly reduce waste production by recycling or upcycling our end-of-life bikes at our expense.

For the frame of the bike, bamboo was quickly obvious because this material has many ecological advantages, absorbs vibrations and is very resistant, it is associated with recycled aluminum and carbon fiber to ensure the bike optimum durability.

Objective No. 13: Measures relating to the fight against climate change

At the end of the century, research converges on a global temperature increase of more than 1.5°C compared to the period from 1850 to 1900. Most of the effects of climate change will persist for many centuries even if the we're ending the broadcasts.

It is therefore by focusing on the most polluting sectors that we will be able to make a difference. The transport sector represents 31% of greenhouse gas emissions in France and is therefore in first place.

The bicycle then presents itself as the most viable alternative for daily trips in the city in order to reduce this impact. If only 10% of city trips were made by bicycle, emissions from urban transport would decrease by 7%. It would also help reduce air pollution and save the lives of some 7 million people a year worldwide.

Goal #14: Aquatic Life

Our impact on aquatic life as a player in urban mobility may seem surprising. But this is much less so when one realizes that most marine pollution results from land-based activities.

Replacing the personal car with the bicycle is good, but choosing an eco-responsible bicycle whose end of life is managed is better! Each year, more than 100 bicycles are fished out of the Seine alone. In addition, current extraction methods for polluting materials also contaminate water.

We have also chosen to reduce the use of plastic, even recycled, as much as possible. Indeed, this material can only be recycled up to 3 times and will always become waste!

Goal #15: Life on Earth

Deforestation and desertification - caused by human activities and climate change - pose major challenges to sustainable development.

Thanks to our partnership with EcoTree , we have a concrete environmental action with a sustained investment in the planting of trees and the sustainable management of French forests. Our sustainable development policy is thus part of an approach to contribute to global carbon neutrality.

Did you know ? : Forests are home to more than 80% of terrestrial species of animals, plants and insects.

With Möbius Bike, you contribute to 7 United Nations goals, each at our level as a player in sustainable mobility.

Come make an impact with us, one bike at a time!
