We wanted to return, through this article, to the history of the creation of Möbius and to what drives us on a daily basis to commit to more sustainable mobility. Good reading !
Soft mobility to depollute cities
In 2020, during the first lockdown and at the worst of the COVID crisis, we had a revelation! Our urban neighborhoods, usually with increased noise and air pollution, became breathable and peaceful again overnight and we could hear birdsong again in the morning. The difference was obvious: almost no more thermal cars, only pedestrians and cyclists. Our desire to have an impact and clean up the air in cities for our children, coupled with our skills in engineering and management, we decided to design bikes for urban dwellers like us.
The environmental impact of the bicycle industry
Soon enough, we make another discovery; 1 bicycle is produced every 4 seconds in the world with materials of extractive origin, very energy-intensive processes and sometimes toxic products, and at the end of their life more than 15 million bicycles are thrown away every year and end up in bicycle cemeteries, or closer to home at the bottom of the Seine for example. The cycle industry itself is actually very polluting.
Möbius Bike's commitments
Möbius was born, not only do we tackle the 30% air pollution linked to thermal transport but also pollution from the cycle industry, so as not to harm the planet elsewhere.
It is then in a global 4R approach; Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Recycle throughout the product life cycle, as we design our products. From design with bio-sourced materials such as bamboo, grape leather or recycled materials such as recycled aluminum, to end-of-life management with the recycling of our products.
It was also important to us to contribute to reforestation, trees being real CO2 vacuum cleaners, we do our part and each bike is equivalent to a tree planted and eco-managed in France. There is no desire here for compensation but rather for contribution as much as possible.
We are also a company with a mission, concretely this means that our mission to "clean up cities with the most eco-responsible soft mobility solutions possible" is written in our company statutes and we have the obligation to respond to it in each of our decisions and our daily actions.
By committing to our side, you fight directly and concretely against air pollution linked to thermal transport, the main source of pollution in France (29%). You also act for the protection of French forests and for other environmental projects set up by NGOs, because we donate 1% of our turnover to 1% For The Planet.
Have an impact, one bike at a time!
