We often associate Möbius with the terms company with mission and raison d'être. But do you really know what they mean? We therefore wanted to come back in this article to this particular corporate status and how we put it into practice at Möbius.

 

The company with a mission

With current social and environmental issues, many companies are diversifying the means by which they engage, in particular with the development of responsible initiatives. Thus, different business models have already been proposed such as social business, social and solidarity business, common business or B-corp. France has been one of the avant-garde countries in corporate social and environmental responsibility (CSR) for the past fifteen years. These developments have contributed to a favorable evolution of these new models.

The mission-based company was introduced by the PACTE law in 2019. It differs from other business models from the drafting of the statutes since a purpose is added to it, freely defined by the organization. Whether the latter is environmental or social, the company must include it in each of its decisions and daily actions.

For Möbius Bike, this raison d'être is "to depollute the city using sustainable mobility".

Before the appearance of the company with a mission , INSEE defined the company as an “autonomous economic entity”. The objective of the PACTE law is thus to give a new meaning to the company by broadening its responsibility. In June 2022, there were 726 companies with a mission in France and this figure has been constantly changing since the health crisis.

 

Möbius Bike, born a company with a mission

Companies, such as Danone, have chosen to become companies with a mission by modifying their statutes several years after their creation.

While Möbius was born a company with a mission , it means that we included our raison d'être in the first statutes of the company. Our commitments have guided our strategy since our beginnings.

In all the decisions we make, our reason for being is the priority argument and must not be set aside under any circumstances.

To become a company with a mission, we have:

Include a purpose in the statutes

In their guide " Loi Pacte & raison d'être, and if we went into practice" , the Observatory of corporate social responsibility (ORSE) and the College of sustainable development directors (C3D) share the following definition: "reason d'être is an expression of the societal usefulness of the company which will be, for it, both a compass and a safeguard with regard to the decisions of the board of directors and the management board. »

Thus, the purpose of the company makes it possible to structure its long-term vision and to make tangible its impact on society.

Möbius Bike has included the following purpose in its statutes: "Depollute the city using sustainable mobility". Beyond making the cycle industry more sustainable, we are also committed to making the city more pleasant to live in to bequeath a healthy planet to our children.

Added in our statutes several social and environmental objectives related to this purpose

If the raison d'être is the backbone of the company, it is the mission, that is to say the raison d'être accompanied by commitments, which will give life to the company's project. Our results now have three dimensions: commercial, social and environmental, structured around 13 objectives; such as participating in social and environmental actions throughout the year, creating an innovative way to recycle bicycles or contributing to the promotion of girls and women who evolve in the fields of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math).

Have appointed an independent third-party body responsible for verifying the proper execution of the mission.

This organization ensures that we respect our raison d'être and that it is Möbius' priority, beyond commercial and financial decisions and results.

By becoming a company with a mission , in accordance with the Pacte law, our company affirms its commitment. Möbius Bike promotes a different vision of the sustainable, more responsible mobility industry. Thus, we assume our choices and anchor our approach in the long term. This decision is binding in the long term because its impact goes beyond the duration of a director's mandate. By giving ourselves a purpose, we have laid solid foundations for the adventure to continue beyond our own action.
