How to choose your electric bike?

With the development of soft mobility since the period of health crisis, the electric bike is the new preferred means of transport . But how do you find the right bike for you? Möbius helps you to determine the fundamental criteria.

Why buy an electric bike?

With the development of networks of cycle paths in large cities, it has become easier to get around on two wheels. In addition, bicycles allow you to avoid traffic jams and save money on parking (often chargeable in the city center).

But why choose an electric bike in particular? Because it allows you to travel longer distances with less effort and without sweating before work!

The VAE is currently one of the most economical and ecological alternatives while allowing you to maintain good health.

How to choose your electric bike?

    1. A sustainable bike

An electric bike is a medium-term investment, be sure to select it with durable and environmentally friendly materials to reduce your impact !

In addition, some brands offer to recycle the bike and the battery at the end of their life, which makes it possible to remain in a circular economy approach or even a short circuit and to give a second life to the components.

Also find out about the origin of the materials , the mention “Made in France” often means that part of the assembly is carried out in France and in no way that the materials are produced in France. The shade is great!

        2. A quality bike

Compare e-bikes according to materials, quality of electrical equipment , strength of its frame, additional optimized features such as a display screen or a linked mobile application. All elements of the bike should be factored into your thought process.

          3. A technical bike

Depending on your height and build, pay attention to the height and shape of the frame. Frame too big and you won't be in full control of your bike, a good test is to be able to put your leg on the ground easily. Frame too small and you won't be able to straighten your legs when pedaling and the discomfort of riding will end up wearing out your joints.

In addition, choose a light bike that will handle more easily, we recommend that you do not exceed the 20 kilogram mark.

Also pay attention to the driving position : urban VS sporty. In a sporty position, you'll be stretched out very forward, not ideal after a business lunch! While opting for an urban model you will be seated almost straight, it all depends on your primary need but also on your driving style.

Regarding the seat, you must also take into account the width and comfort of the saddle , neither too narrow (beware of sore buttocks!) nor too wide so that it remains stylish!

Another technical aspect to take into account is the position of the motor . We do not recommend motors positioned on the front wheel because it unbalances the bike, the central position is interesting but far too powerful for the 25 km/h limit in France. We recommend a motor installed on the rear wheel , this gives dynamics to the bike without really unbalancing it.

Finally, last essential point, prefer a belt to a messy and noisy chain which rusts easily and requires a lot of maintenance. The belt will be the ally of your clean pants!

            4. A designer bike

Take advantage of this investment to indulge yourself and choose an elegant bike that you will be proud to wear, that will accompany you on a daily basis and that suits you. However, we recommend that you stick to minimalist and timeless designs that will survive the ups and downs of fashion. Remember, the goal is for you to keep it as long as possible!

Prefer a more natural look? Opt for bamboo ! Do you prefer a more sporty chic look? Dark colors (black, grey) will be perfect!

                5. A bike at the right price

When buying an electric bike you should also ask yourself what justifies its price . A very expensive eBike will not necessarily be more resistant or of better quality than a more reasonably priced eBike. A very inexpensive eBike with a battery on the rack may not last very long. (We also recommend that you do not put anything on the back that could weaken the battery).

Check if the basic accessories are included in the price; Mudguard, kickstand, bell and reflectors are essential elements, it would be a shame to blow your budget to acquire them.

Finally, compare all the materials, their origin, their manufacturing conditions and end-of-life management. Learn about the brand, its values and what it conveys through its products .

A price must always be justified and a very high price is not necessarily a guarantee of superior quality.
